Today I finished reading The Life of Pi by Yann Martel, which has been on my list for two years now, since my students began reading it for their independent novel unit. I thoroughly enjoyed it; it was a much happier book (despite the grievous inciting incident) than I am used to reading, and was really delightful. I could relate to his self-criticism when he was tying multiple knots for his raft; I've had a knot book for months now but haven't had a chance to practice. It's on the to-do list for the summer. I even have some pleasingly thick white nylon rope for the job.
When my students were reading it, I decided to look up "Richard Parker" (the name of the Bengal tiger) on the internet and discovered that according to several sources, including an interview with Martel himself, that there are multiple incidents of Richard Parkers being lost at sea and engaging in cannibalism. I won't give anything else away.
